Map Dolomites - Venice

Route

Tour profile/Level 2:

The first two days you mainly follow the old Dolomites railway track. From the third day, the tour encounters slight ascents and descents on quite side roads through idyllic landscape and typical Italian villages until reaching the plains on the last day. The tour is suitable for children from the age of 14.

Day 1: Hochpustertal (Toblach/Niederdorf)

Individual arrival at the hotel in Hochpustertal. Car parking is near the hotel.

Day 2: Hochpustertal – Cortina d’Ampezzo, approx. 30 - 35 km

You cycle from Villabassa/Dobbiaco along the picturesque Dolomite Railway Cycle Path through the Höhlenstein Valley, past Dobbiaco Lake, the war cemetery and the impressive Three Peaks. On the leisurely descent, accompanied by breathtaking mountain panoramas, you finally reach the charming Dolomite town of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Day 3: Cortina d’Ampezzo – Belluno, approx. 75 km

Today the route goes gently downhill along the old railway line, with a view of the Sorapis on the left and the "Five Towers" - Cinque Torri - on the right. The route leads through the Boite valley to Pieve/Calalzo di Cadore and from there on a new cycle path to Longarone, which was rebuilt in 1963 after a rock fall and a flood in the reservoir. The last stage is a slightly hilly section to Belluno.

Day 4: Belluno – Feltre, approx. 40 km

From Belluno, the charming capital of the province of the same name, you cycle through shady avenues of deciduous forest and discover the hilly landscape on the way to Feltre. During your ride today, you will encounter picturesque villages that invite you to stop for a short while. In the north, you look back at the imposing Dolomites that accompanied you on the first stages.

Day 5: Feltre – Bessano del Grappa, approx. 55 km

The initial kilometres are relaxed, and after a brisk descent through the Brenta Valley, you reach the picturesque town of Bassano del Grappa, where the Brenta River flows into the plain. Although the name "Grappa" comes from Monte Grappa, you can still treat yourself to a well-deserved schnapps after reaching your destination for the day.

Day 6: Bassano del Grappa – Treviso, approx. 55 km

You leave the Alps and approach the sea today. Palladio’s villas, for which he is best known in Venice, are already visible. In Asolo you can revel in history before cycling leisurely to Treviso, a fashion stronghold with picturesque canals and decorated façades.

Day 7: Treviso – Venice mainland/Mestre, approx. 45 km

On the cycle path along the river Sile we continue towards the Adriatic Sea to Venice mainland to admire Venice, the "Serenissima" with all its splendid buildings.

Day 8: Venice (Mestre)

This was a really enjoyable tour with such a variation in landscape. The red markers en-route made it much easier to follow the directions and the cycle paths were pleasantly quiet...R.F. 07/17
