Your cycle holiday begins in the idyllic town of Hann.Münden, where the rivers Werra and Fulda merge. The well-signposted cycle path follows the wide meanders of the river through the North German Plain. Before you reach the beautiful old Hanseatic city of Bremen, you will pass castles, palaces and monasteries, museums, cafés and restaurants, as well as a varied river landscape that offers new experiences every day. Choose between the 8 or 12 day variant and enjoy the fairytale route at your own pace.
Route
Tour Profile / Level 1
Paths are flat throughout the journey, mostly on cycle paths
Day 1: Hann. Münden
Individual arrival. Get here early to have a chance to see the 700+ half-timbered houses in the city, as well as renaissance-era city hall. There is parking at the hotel, and bicycles are also available for rent.
Day 2: Hann. Münden – Beverungen, ca. 55 km
The former Benedictine monastery at Bursfelde, and Oberweser with its open-air milling museum await you.
Day 3: Beverungen – Bodenwerder ca. 59 km
Today your ride takes you along the border of Solling. You’ll pass the Fürstenberg castle, where porcelain is made, before you reach the cloister at Corvey. After that, continue on to the next highlight of the tour: the palace at Bevern, one of the most impressive buildings of the renaissance in Weser.
Day 4: Bodenwerder – Rinteln, ca. 56 km
After leaving Bodenwerder, you’ll be greeted by the picturesque Hämelschenburg, before being captivated by the Pied Piper of Hameln’s song in Hameln.
Day 5: Rinteln – Minden, ca. 41 km
You’ll see Bad Oeynhausen, famous for its "Jordansprudel," the largest carbonated hot spring in the world. But things will get a bit tight (literally!) in the valley at Porta Westfalica, the gateway to Westphalia, before you reach Minden.
Day 6: Minden – Nienburg, ca. 63 km
Here the landscape changes as you enter the Northern German lowlands. Try following the bear tracks through Nienburg’s old city, for a unique way to see the historical sights.
Day 7: Nienburg – Verden, ca. 55 km
On this leg, your ride takes you through little villages filled with red brick houses before you arrive in Verden, famous for its horses. Photo opportunities abound among the broad meadows, windmills, and occasional farmhouses.
Day 8: Verden – Bremen, ca. 56 km
Welcome to Bremen! Perhaps you heard the famous town musicians on your ride in, or maybe it was your imagination. Either way, don’t forget to check out the statue of them in front of the city hall.
Day 9: Bremen
You can leave your rented bike at the hotel you stay in on your last night. Use a train back to Hann. Münden or we can also, by request, extend your trip to Cuxhaven. (see datails below)
Extension: Bremen – Cuxhaven 12 days
Day 9: Bremen – Brake 52 km
Day 10: Brake – Bremerhaven 32 km
