This cycling and sailing tour takes you on a voyage of discovery in the strait between Denmark and Sweden - the Øresund. Explore the old trade route with its charming harbors and fortified towns by bike and ship and ride through idyllic landscapes on the islands of Ven and Mön. In Copenhagen and Malmö, you’ll also have the chance to explore two of Europe’s most bike-friendly cities.
Your companion is the stately barkentine Atlantis, which is constantly at your side both as a means of transportation and as floating accommodation.
Route
Level 2
The cycling routes are not very long, but some of them have slightly hilly sections, on the island of Mon a more challenging climb to the cliffs. Some half-paved gravel roads, otherwise well passable bike paths.
Day 1: Copenhagen
Individual arrival, embarkation and check in on board from 5:30 pm. Afterwards you will receive a welcome drink and your first dinner on the ship. After dinner, the tour guide will explain the itinerary and safety measures.
Day 2: Copenhagen – Helsingør, approx. 45 km
Already before breakfast you will go by ship to Elsinore, where your first bike tour starts. You will ride along the Danish Riviera, which invites you to linger with its wide sandy beaches. From the harbor town of Hornbaek you will cycle through gently rolling countryside, villages and cornfields via Esrum back to Elsinore. In the evening, stroll through the street food market or explore the historic city center!
Day 3: Helsingør – Helsingborg – Landskrona, approx. 28 km
During breakfast you sail relaxed towards Helsingborg on the Swedish side of the Öresund. Explore the beautiful city center before cycling along the coast to the impressive fortress town of Landskrona. Along the way, you’ll pass picturesque fishing villages with historic fishermen’s cottages. In Landskrona you can already take a first look at the island of Ven!
Day 4: Landskrona – Ven – Malmö, approx. 15 km
Today you have a chance to explore the small island of Ven by bike. From the sailboat you will be taken ashore by dinghy. The barely 7.5 km² "big" island offers a variety of studios, cafés, a wiskey distillery and an observatory from the 16th century. After an exciting day on the jewel of the Öresund, you will return to the Swedish mainland to the city of Malmö.
Day 5: Malmö – Møn, approx. 20 km
After breakfast, you will explore Malmö by bike and experience the bike-friendliness of this city up close. Malmö is a lively mix of historic charm and ultra-modern atmosphere that you have to experience firsthand. In the afternoon, you sail towards the southernmost destination of your trip: the small island of Møn. Enjoy the starry skies, which are excellent to see here due to the sparse population!
Day 6: Møn – Rødvig, approx. 30 km
From the dinghy you will be brought ashore and start your bike tour in Klintholm Havn. The route first leads to the top of the 130m high chalk cliff Møns Klint, about whose origin you can learn more at the GeoCenter. Passing forests, fields and Liselund Castle, you will finally return to Klinthol Havn. In the afternoon you sail to Rødvig.
Day 7: Rødvig - Køge (37 km) | Sailing Køge - Malmö
The final cycling stage begins in the port of Rødvig with a section along the coast. On quiet country roads and cycle paths, you follow the EuroVelo 10 long-distance cycle route and cycle through the hilly landscape, past Denmark’s oldest medieval castle Gjorslev and Vallø Castle. The stage ends in the medieval town of Køge, where your boat is already waiting for you in the harbor. You can take a stroll through the old town before going back on board. In the afternoon, you will sail back to Malmö, where the ship will dock again in the city center.
Day 8: Malmö
End of the trip. Breakfast until 9:30 a.m., then farewell and disembarkation.
