On Majorca mother nature has created everything poets and painters ever dreamed of. The smell of almond blossoms in spring accompanies you on this bike tour.
In a special way you can experience the beauty of this island, the many culinary delights, the blazing colours of art and tradition (of poets and painters, of pottery), spice markets, historic architecture, picturesque sand beaches with bizarre rock formations and sunsets.
Route
Tour profile / Level 2
The stages are average, a mix between short ascents and wonderful descents; really difficult bits will be bridged by bus (also on single tours!). You can cycle on side roads, field paths and some hiking paths, always with as little traffic as possible.
Day 1: El Arenal
Day 2: El Arenal – Colonia San Jordi, approx. 55 km
After a welcome meeting and introduction where you receive your travel documents, the bike tour takes you along the coast, past the Gothic church of Sa Torre to Capocorp Vell, the kingdom of Cyclops (remains of an original settlement), into the impressive swimming bay of Cala Pi. Majorcan wind wheels accompany us on our way to the shining-white beach of Es Trenc that sets itself apart from the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. At the end of the first stage you reach the fishing village of Sa Colonia-San Jordi with its glittering blue salt mountains.
Day 3: Colonia San Jordi – Porto Cristo, approx. 60 km
Today you cycle through the Ses Salines to the biggest botanical garden in Europe. Visit the picturesque bay near Cala Santany. Through small fishing villages to the famous nature bridge "Es Pontas." The Cuevas del Drach are located near Porto Cristo – one of Majorca’s famous marvels, a fantastic stalactite cave.
Day 4: Porto Cristo – C’an Picafort, approx. 55 km
You cycle through the sleepy village of Son Carrio with the Gaudi village church Versade to the next town Manacor, famous for Majoricas-pearls. And on to Santa Margerita, the birthplace of Joan March (one of the richest Majorcans), then into the bay of Alcudia to C’an Picafort.
Day 5: Alcudia-roundtrip, approx. 45 km
Your luggage stays at the hotel today for another night in C’an Picafort. The Alcudia Tour takes you through the nature reserve of S’Albufera to the bay of Pollenca (Roman excavation site). You continue on the coast road to Alcudia (the oldest town on the island) and back to C’an Picafort.
Day 6: C’an Picafort – Port de Sòller, approx. 45 km
Into the interior through Muro and Inca to Serra Tramuntana, bus transfer or bike journey to the monastery Lluc (tour) and on to the highest point on the Majorca Island Tour at 1200 altitude meters. Then downhill into Spain’s most beautiful village, Fornalutx, where you can enjoy a splendid almond cake and many other Majorcan delights. Accompanied by the scent of orange and lemon trees you continue into the Roman fishing harbour of Porto Sóller.
Day 7: Port de Sòller – El Arenal, approx. 20 km
The last leg begins with one of Majorca’s oldest trams. You travel from the hotel to the centre of Sóller and from here on with the historic train "Red Bolt" through the valley of oranges and some tunnels to the capital Palma. Then you continue along the coast by bike to El Arenal.
