Route
Tour profile/ Level 1-2:
You cycle on mostly flat, paved hiking and cycling trails aside from traffic noise, only occasionally a few gradients must be overcome. The route is very well signposted. Most of the time the railway line runs parallel to the bike path.
Day 1: Marburg
Individual arrival. If you have enough time, you should go visit the historic old town and the Elisabeth-church.
Day 2: Marburg – Wetzlar, approx. 54 km
Let’s get started for the first stage of your journey. Today you cycle through the wide valley of the Lahn and along idyllic situated ponds to Wetzlar. Discover Wetzlar’s beautiful old town and enjoy the spicy speciality of the region - a ’Handkäs mit Musik’ (a cheese with onions in oil).
Day 3: Wetzlar – Weilburg, approx. 32 - 40 km
You leave Wetzlar by using the old medieval stone bridge. Soon you reach mine Fortuna, the only iron mine in Germany where iron mining is shown with the help of original equipment. The stage to Weilburg is unforgettable. The renaissance palace of Weilburg is located at a rock high above the river Lahn.
Day 4: Weilburg – Limburg, approx. 40 km
The course of the river winds it´s way between Taunus and Westerwald. You cycle on the asphalted path via Aumenau and Runkel to Limburg, well-known its famous cathedral.
Day 5: Limburg – Bad Ems, approx. 36 - 47 km
Today you enjoy another great scenic experience: away from all traffic the journey leads through an untouched valley from Diez to Balduinstein. This day has two ascends, of which one can be bypassed by train (11 km). Recover during a break at monastery Arnstein, at Nassau castle or in the historic tavern near the Lahn. At the end of the day you reach Bad Ems, one of the most beautiful and traditional health resorts in Germany.
Day 6: Bad Ems – Braubach/Koblenz, approx. 17 - 69 km
After 12 km the Rhine valley opens up in front of your eyes. Here you can enjoy another highlight of your journey with a trip via Boppard and St. Goar to the legendary Loreley (+29 km). You will go back to Braubach or Koblenz by ship.
Please note: If you arrive on Wednesday, due to the boat timetable a shorter boat trip to Boppart and then another 23 km cycle tour to Koblenz is planned for day 6.
