The bike path through the three countries between the Vistula and Tisza is an exciting experience.

 

You cycle along alpine peaks, green hills from the Carpathians and famous wine-growing regions and Hungarian steppes. You cross the eastern Slovakia, a country full of contrasts with spacious monuments, once flourishing in the Middle Ages, sleepy villages and a pinch of exotica, when you drive through the colorful neighborhoods of the Roma population.

Tour profile:

You ride mostly on gravel bike trails and often along river valleys. In the first few days are some gradients, but at the end of the journey the country will become flatter.

Day 1: Krakow

Individual arrival.

Day 2:  Tatranska Lomnica - Kezmarok   (approx. 20km/13 miles + 140km/87 miles bus)

In the morning a small bicycle tour through Krakow. Then you will cross the border to Slovakia by bus to Tatranska Lomnica. After lunch you cycle to the historical town of Kezmarok, once one of the most important settlements on medieval Slovakia's eastern boundaries.

 

Day 3:  Kezmarok - Levoca   (approx. 30km/19 miles)

At this cycle day you can enjoy the beautiful views of the Tatras and the Zips basin. Biking along the ridge, you will see the day's destination, the town Levoca, Pearl of the Zips, a historic city cultural monument.

Day 4: Levoca - Krompachy   (approx. 35km/ 22 miles)

From the Sibenik hill you have a beautiful view over the city, the Tatra and other areas of the country Zipser. From a distance you see the attraction of the day, the Zipser castle, an imposing ruined castle, a UNESCO monument. Today's bike ride ends in the city Krompachy on the river Hornad.

 

Day 5:  Krompachy - Kosice   (approx. 60km/ 37 miles)

You cross the Carpathians without steep inclines, because the whole route runs through the valley of Hornad. You cycle 15 km along the scenic reservoir Ruzin. Then the valley widens and you can see the first vineyards which accompany you to the eastern Slovak city Kosice.

Day 6: Kosice -  Satoraljaujhely (approx. 70km/ 44 miles)

The cycle tour starts through the valleys and gentle hills of the Sovarer mountains. Then the terrain becomes flatter and at the horizon the Zemplen mountains appears. Before you reach your accommodation at Satoraljaujhely you cross the Hungarian border.

Day 7:  Satoraljaujhely - Tokaj   (approx. 45km/ 28 miles)

Today everthing is all about enjoyment of cycling at the shallow river valleys of the Bodrog and the Tisza. Today the attraction is the Renaissance castle of the noble family Rakoczi in Sarospatak, also called "Calvinist Athen". after visiting this castle you cycle through vineyards to the world famous Tokaj wine-growing town. Tokaj is a pretty town with a small square, a Bacchus monument, a renovated synagogue and of course, numerous wine bars.

Day 8:  Tokaj - Budapest

You will leave Tokaj and dirve by bus or train to Budapest (about 3 hours). In the afternoon you can take a city sightseeing tour.

Day 9: Budapest

Individual departure or extension.
