Level 2, hilly terrain of easy to medium difficulty

Day 1: Castel des Monte (Andria)

Individual arrival.

Day 2: Castel del Monte - Trani (approx. 45 km/ 28 miles)

Your first route is a loop going to Trani, an old town facing the Adriatic Sea. Visit the lovely historical centre, the romanesque cathedral and the old port.

Day 3: Castel del Monte - Venosa (approx. 64 km/ 40 miles)

You pass through the olive fields with a stop in Castel del Monte, a UNESCO site. After visiting the castle, from where you have a wonderful view over the "Alta Murgia" plateau, you cycle on to Venosa.

Day 4: Cycle into the Vulture area (approx. 45 km/ 28 miles)

Through the land of Aglianico wine and of top-rate olive oil, you cycle to Melfi, where you can visit the big Norman castle.
Possibility for a wine tasting at a local wine store (not included). Back to Venosa across the hills and the wine cellars located around Barile and Ginestra.

Day 5: Venosa - Bufalara (Grottole) (approx. 40 km/ 25 miles + Minivan transfer)

A gentle ride through the Bradano river valley with Palazzo S. Gervasio, Banzi, Genzano di Lucania. In Genzano you will meet our van to be transferred to Bufalara hill.

Day 6: Bufalara - Matera ( approx. 45 km/ 28 miles)

Today you ride along the wonderful, deserted road around San Guiliano Lake, a peaceful natural oasis, the destination of many migratory birds from Africa. Along the river Bradano you cycle to Matera.

Day 7: Matera - Rock churches Park (appox. 40 km/ 25 miles)

Cycle along the valley of the Chiese Rupestri (rock churches) Park, stopping for a picnic at a farm on the way. After an optional further 5 km uphill, you will reach the town of Montescaglioso with its Benedictine abbey before returning to Matera.

Day 8: departure

Individual departure.
