Isar Cycle Path and Bavarian Lakes

This bike journey is really bavarian! The numerous seas in the south of Germany are deep-blue and clear as crystal. You will cycle through dreamed villages and cities. Starnbergersee and Tegernsee will impress you with untouched nature and bavarian tradition!

During your bike journey you pass well-known bavarian seas with best water quality. You cycle with view to the majestic Mountains and you stroll through old cities who are decorated with flowers and rich of culture. The overnight cities are colored and baroque. Tour profile:

Level 2. On cycle paths and small side roads, main roads only for short distances, mostly asphalted, some longer passages also on good nature paths, a few short asscents can also be conquered by pushing the bike.

1. Day: München

Individual Arrival.

2. Day: Munich – Murnau at the Staffelsee (approx. 65 km/approx. 40 miles)

From Munich you cycle through the Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberg. From Starnberg on cycle path directly on the lake shore to Seeshaupt. On beautiful paths you pass the Osterseas and the Riegseas to Murnau. 

3. Day: Murnach - Garmisch Partenkirchen (approx. 35 km/approx. 22 miles)

At first through the nature reserve Murnauer moos (biggest moor region in Central Europe). Continue through the unspoilt nature, following the river Loisbach to Garmisch Partenkirchen. You have the possibility to ride with the Zugspitzbahn.

4. Day: Garmisch Partenkirchen – Wallgau (approx. 50 km/approx. 31 miles)

You bridge 300 meters of altitude to Scharnitz by train. From there you go slightly uphill through wildly romantic gorges and lush alpine fields to the source of the Isar. Back through the sunny high-lying valley with wonderful panoramas of the Karwendel and Wetterstein Mountains through Mittenwald to Wallgau - a village which still culivates Bavarian tradition.

5. Day: Wallgau – Bad Tölz (approx. 48 km/approx. 30 miles)

Past Isarwinkel, following the turquoise-blue water to the impressive Sylvenstein Lake, and through Lenggries across charming landscapes to Bad Tölz. The town on the junction of two trading routes, the Isar and the old salt route from Reichenhall to Allgäu, developed quickly into a blooming trading post. The richly ornamented middle class houses are evidence of the golden age.

6. Day: Bad Tölz – Tegernsee - Bad Tölz (approx. 40 km/approx. 25 miles)

You cycle through the Tegernsee landscape until you reach Gmund at the Tegernsee. Along the valley of the Gaißbach you cylce back to Bad Tölz. After the cycle tour you can relax in the thermal water of the well-known spa "Alpamare" or you can visit the setting of the german tv-soap "Der Bulle von Tölz".

7. Day: Bad Tölz - Munich (approx. 55 km/approx. 35 miles)

The Isar cycle path takes you through Geretsried and Wolfratshausen to Grünwald. You have to overcome a few short ascents before reaching the Bavarian capital Munich with its numerous places of interest.

8. Day: Munich
