Alps, confederates and the tricolor

Mighty mountains dominate the borders between Switzerland and France. The Rhône river takes you from Genf to the French region of the Rhône-Alpes. You cycle threw snow-capped peaks, rolling hills, vineyards and some of the most beautiful villages in France for example to Lyon, the capital of culinary delights.

Travel details

1. Day: Geneva/Annemasse

Individual arrival. Enjoy your stay at the Geneva harbor with the famous Jet d'Eau water fountain in the historic center of the "world's smallest metropolis". The city shows open to the world, full of art and life.

2. Day: Geneva/Annemasse and the lake of Geneva (approx. 40 km/25 miles)

Today you cycle along Lake Geneva. Your journey takes you through the Swiss-French border. You'll pass places like the medieval-looking town Yvoire (France) and Hermance (Switzerland), before returning to Geneva through Annemasse. In the afternoon you have another opportunity to visit the city.

3. Day: Geneva/Annemasse - Seyssel (approx. 60 km/38 miles)

You leave Geneva and follow the Rhône through the Défilé de l´Écluse, a narrow flow passage through the mountains. You can see the beautiful mountains of the Savoy Alps and Mont Blanc. Today your tour ends in the city Seyssel. Two suspension bridges connect together the pretty houses and squares on the left and right side of the Rhône.

4. Day: Seyssel - Les Avenières (approx. 60 km/38 miles)

You will cycle along the Rhone to Chanaz with its houses from the 15th and 16 Century. At the Lake of Bourget, the home of many seabirds, follow the bike path to Lucey which is in the wine growing region Savoie. After this you will pass the two cities Massignieu and Bellay before you reach your milestone for today the city of Les Avenières.

5. Day: Les Avenières - Pérouges/Meximieux (approx. 55 km/35 miles)

Today you will drive along narrow roads to the port of Briord. From there you can get on a path along the river Meximieux your overnight stop. It lies beneath the romantic mountain village Pérouges. The city has a magnificent historic center and therefore it is one of the most beautiful villages of France.

6. Day: Pérouges/Meximieux - Lyon (approx. 55 km/35 miles)

Over a mountain trail and bike paths on flat roads you will cycle into the city of Lyon. Since 1998, the Vieux Lyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The city offers about 30 museums and is also famous for his exquisite cuisine.

7. Day: Lyon
