Myth of the Loire
The Loire is more than a river - it is a whole myth: gentle, elegant and untameable. The riverbanks have never been fixed, which allows the river to make its way freely through the surrounding landscapes. In this week of cycling, every day brings new suprises. And in the evenings you can indulge in the culinary specialties of the region and the broad offer of regional wine.

Mostly flat, some uphill stretches. You cycle on paved country roads.
Day 1: Saumur
Individual arrival.
Day 2: Saumur - Angers (approx. 60 km/38 miles)
You bike past champagne-cellars and champignon-farms. Gentle hills lead you towards some of the most picturesque villages along the Loire: Chénehutte, Cunault and Le Thoureil. You cross the river near St. Mathurin. Through an area used for market - gardening and seed cultivation you cycle to Angers, the black city.
Day 3: Angers - Ingrandes-sur-Loire (approx. 45 km/28 miles)
Visit the castle of Angers before you start today's stage. Today you will cycle through an area famous for its wines - fruity dry white wines invite for a visit of one of the wine cellars. From La Poissonnière you cycle on the Loire-dike with enough time to enjoy the river's wild nature until you reach Ingrandes sur Loire.
Day 4: Ingrandes-sur-Loire - Nantes (approx. 65 km/40 miles)
Enjoy the beautiful view from the old town of St. Florent le Vieil. The Loire is "escorting" you to the centre of the historic capital of Brittany, Nantes. Although the ocean is still some 70 km away, its effect can already be felt here.
Day 5: Nantes - Mesquer-Quimiac (approx. 55 km/36 miles)
You take the train to Saint-Nazaire. Explore the rare flora and fauna of the peninsula Guérande. Your home for the next three nights is located in the small coastal town of Mesquer-Quimiac, only a few hundred meters from the coast.
Day 6: Cliffy coasts and dream-bays (approx. 60 km, 38 miles)
The small coastal road leads you to the fishing harbour of La Turballe. Through the salt-gardens you cycle to Batz-sur-Mer and finally to the farthest headland at the harbour of La Croisic.
Day 7: The marshes of the Brière (approx. 50 km/34 miles)
Today's destination is the nature reserve "La Grande Brière", one of the biggest offshore marsh- and lagoon-areas of France. Explore the fascinating landscapes in one of the little boats - surely a highlight of every visit.
Day 8: Mesquer-Quimiac
Individual departure or extension of your stay.

Transfer: each Saturday 09:00 a.m., with Van, 2,5-3 hours, reservation necessary, € 65 pp incl bike, payable with booking
Airport: Paris
Parking: free parking lots on the edge of town, public garage in Saumur approx. € 35/week, reservation not possible
