Travel details

Tour profile:

Level 2; hilly with some ascents and descends

Day 1: Reims

Individual arrival. Welcome meeting and bike handover late afternoon at the hotel.

Day 2: Reims - Tours sur Marne (approx. 54 km/34miles)

Visit Cathedral Notre Dame at Reims, - Unesco World Heritage since 1991. Enjoy the view over the mills of Verzeney and one strange lighthouse -which presumably should  illuminate the vineyards. You will cycle on through dreamy  villages like Gran-Cru- in the community Bouzy and Chigny les Roses.

Day 3: Tours sur Marne - Epernay (approx. 35 km/22miles)

The champagne was invented by the monk Don Perignon in the  benedictine abey of Hautvillers. Today you will cycle through the national park Montagnes des Reims and you will cycle through Verzy, where you should visit the  "Faux-de-Verzy" - an unusual forest of gnarled, stunted and twisted beech trees hundred of years old.  You will find famous Champagne brands at the magnificent  wine cellars of Epernay.

Day 4: Epernay - Vertus (approx. 25km/15miles)

Côte Blancs is the cradle of Chardonnay: the villages rest on the hills like amphitheatres. At the distance the extensions of the Marnevalley. In the middle of the valleys little villages where the time stops.

Day 5: Vertus - Châtillon sur Marne (approx. 35km/22miles)

Again you cyle through vine yards and wood, pass the renaissance castle Boursault built by the widow Cliqout.  Looming on the horizon you see the church of Châtillon-sur-Marne.

Day 6: Châtillon sur Marne - Reims (approx. 35km/22miles)

Through the vine yards of Pinot Noir you cycle back to Reims.  Visit one of the four UNESCO world cultural heritages in the city: the cathedral, the abbey, Palais du Tau or Basilika Saint-Remi.

Day7: Reims

Individual departure or extension.
