The Loire Valley - the essence of the romantic France. Of course it is mainly the castles, the Loire is famous for. But the castles are not all this area can offer. Explore the Loire Valley and some of its major sights during this impressive tour.

Hilly area with few long, sometimes steep rises. Good shape advantageous.

Day 1: Tours

Individual arrival.
Tourinformation between 5 and 7p.m. at the starthotel.

Day 2: Tours - region of Chinon  (approx. 60 km/38 miles)

You bike to the castle of Villandry with its famous terraced gardens. After reaching the banks of the Loire river you arrive at the castle of Langeais. The day's stretch ends in Chinon. Alternatively you can take the train from Tours to Chinon, access along the route not possible.

Day 3: Region of Chinon - Fontevraud - Region of Chinon
(approx. 55 km/34 miles)

This round trip takes you to the monastery of Fontevraud and the castle of Chinon.

Day 4: Region of Chinon - Azay-le-Rideau (approx. 40 km/25 miles)

Passing lonesome villages you reach the castle of Azay-le-Rideau, described by Balzac as "a diamond with thousands of facets".

Day 5: Azay-le-Rideau - Region of Chenonceaux (approx. 60 km/38 miles)

Through the idyllic valleys of the Indre and Cher rivers you bike to Chenonceaux with its majestic castle - clearly one of the highlights of your tour.

Day 6: Region of Chenonceaux - Blois (approx. 45/75 km/28/47 miles)

Today you may either cycle directly to the castle of Chaumont or pass by Montrichard, Cheverny and Villesavine. Today's destination is Blois which also has a fantastic castle.

Day 7: Blois - Tours (approx. 70 km/44 miles)

After a visit to the castle of the French kings, Amboise, you arrive at Tours. You can take the train from Amboise to Tours to shorten the leg (€ 8,- not included), or you can take the train for the whole leg Blois-Tours.

Day 8: Tours

Individual departure or extension.
