You can enjoy a visit to the monastery of St Florian and Enns, the oldest town of Austria. Further on you will reach the famous Wachau where you can visit the unique Benedictine monastery of Melk or simply try the local wine at one of the “Heurigen” (wine tavern). Travel details

Tour Profile:

Level 2, mostly flat but some hilly stretches in the Salzkammergut, completely flat in the Danube valley.

Day 1: Salzburg

Independent arrival to Salzburg. Use the extra time for a walk through the picturesque old part of this fascinating town.

Day 2: Salzburg - Attersee (approx. 28 miles)

Along an old railroad track you cycle to lake Mondsee, a scenery that offers excellent and varied cycling, with spectacular views of unfathomably deep lakes and the most glorious mountain scenery you can imagine. Soon you reach the soft hills of the Attergau and the Attersee. This is one of the most favoured recreation area for locals and visitors.

Day 3: Attersee - Traunsee (approx. 24 miles)

You will pass the romantic valley Weissenbachtal to reach the banks of lake Traunsee. Transfer by boat (or train) to Gmunden, a charming town in the heart of Upper Austria and the former centre for the old salt-mining towns.

Day 4:  Traunsee - Lambach - Linz (approx. 20 miles)

The cycle route today leads you via Laakirchen and Steyrermühl to Lambach, from here you take the train to Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. Like most cities of Austria, the city of Linz is based on the Roman expansion to the North. The bending of the River Danube made this territory a strategic point and a small castle fortified it. A walk through the narrow lanes around the main square of Linz is a worthwhile experience.

Day 5:  Linz - Grein/Ardagger (approx. 36 miles)

Today you can enjoy a visit of the monastery of St. Florian and Enns, the oldest town of Austria. Your destination today is the romantic baroque village of Grein (with the oldest theatre of Austria).

Day 6:  Grein/Ardagger - Wachau (approx. 44/47 miles)

Passing the region of Strudengau and Nibelungengau, you reach the famous Wachau, recently nominated as a UNESCO World Culture Heritage. Visit the unique Benedictine monastery of Melk or try the local wine at one of the Heurigen (typical wine taverns).

Day 7: Wachau - Tulln - Vienna (approx. 39 miles)

Enjoy the bike tour through impressive villages as Weissenkirchen and Dürnstein. Passing the medieval town of Krems ( you can also visit the impressive benedictine monestary of Gottweig), you will reach Tulln. Train transfer to Vienna. Vienna boasts one of the world's most famous culinary traditions. A diverse yet delectably harmonious range of dishes reflects the city's mix of nationalities and food cultures through the centuries, and inspires visitors from all over the globe.

Day 8: Vienna

Return to Salzburg by train or extend your stay in Vienna.

We highly recommend to visit an unforgettable Waltz- and Operetta-Concert
