Following the Greenway trail..... natural heritage along the former Iron Curtain.

Discover by bike the region, which once seperated the Czeck republic from the rest of western Europe. The crowning final of this cycle tour will be - of course - Vienna, the metropolis of Waltz.

Travel details

Tour profile:
Level 2. Mainly on country roads as well as forest tracks and rural roads.

Day 1: Prag - Cesky Krumlov (ca. 175 km/ 110 miles per Bus)

The guided tour usually starts on the scheduled day at 9.a.m. Self-guided tours and non-scheduled tours start at your request.
After a short welcome briefing you will be transferred to Cesky Krumlov. After the check-in in your hotel the bike handover takes place and afterwards you still have enough time for an extensive walk around the old city of Krumlov - worth visiting are the old castle (wonderfull view over the town) and the baroque theatre.
Alternatively you have the possibility to be transferred from Prague to Cesky Budejovice and cycle down to Cesky Krumlov to get used with your bike (27 km/16 miles).

Day 2: Cesky Krumlov - Trebon (ca. 61 km/38 miles)

Todays cycle tour leads through the beautiful hilly landscape surrounding of Cesky Krumlov. However, the closer you get to the Trebon area, the flatter the landscape becomes. A scenic ride through a picturesque landscape ends in Trebon, also well-known as a major spa resort. After check-in in your hotel you can take the opportunity to enjoy a massage in the spa or visti the tomb of the aristocratic familiy Schwarzenberg. In the evening you should not miss a  walk through the Renaissance town.

Day 3: Trebon - Telc (ca. 78 km/48 miles)

The trail winds along many ponds and man-made lakes, so typical of this region, to Perslak, the most northern point of Austria. You will follow the border with Austria on the Greenway trail passing through Nova Bystrice. From here on the path will take you through the forests of the National Park called Czeck Canada. The day ends in Telc, a Renaissance town registered on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. Houses on the main square with facades decorated with typically renaissance graffiti, from the best-preserved Renaissance square in the Czech Republic.

Day 4: Telc - Vranov (ca. 54 km/35 miles)

You will ride through several charming villages typical for this area of the country. Cycle gently through the region of South Moravia and stay overnight in Vranov, situated near a dam.

Day 5: Vranov - Znojmo (ca. 38 km/23 miles)

You will cycle on the Greenway trail following the river Dyje and the southern Czech border with Austria. This very beautiful trail leads through the National Park of Dyje. Znojmo is the gateway to the region of South Moravia, a region of wine production. After arriving in your todays hotel enjoy a splendid walk around the historical centre of Znojmo.

Day 6: Znojmo - Mikulov (ca. 70 km/43 miles)

This flatland region is a traditional vine-growing area and there are many wine cellars which invite you for a break. You continue the trail and arrive in Mikulov, a town full of rich history, a beautiful castle and a historical square.

Day 7: Mikulov - Vienna (ca. 96 km/60 miles per bike and bus)

You cross the border at the Mikulov border checkpoint and spend the rest of the tour in Austria. At the beginning the path is quite similar to the Czech section. You cycle through vineyrads, fields and small villages. Experienced bikers can reach Vienna by bike. We recommend finishing the cycling part of the trail in Poysdorf (25 km) or in Mistelbach (48 km) and then travelling by bus to Vienna.

For groups: transfer back to Prague with bus and last night in Prague

Day 8: Vienna

Individual departure or extension (in Prague or Vienna).
