The river Moldau (Vltava), rising in the Bohemian Forest, curls like a blue bend through fascinating landscape. Experience wonderful nature and culture as well as the famous bohemian kitchen and Budweiser beer along the river.

The river is called "mother of bohemian rivers" and is one of the national symbols of Czech Republik. The famous czech composer Friedrich Smetana was inspired by the river to his great symphony "Die Moldau". Cycle up and downhill through lovely villages and beautiful cities.

Tour profile:

Level 3. Although the tour is demanding you will be highly awarded by a beautiful and changeable landscape. Some steeper and longer rises are ideal for admiring the landscape while pushing the bike. Following the river you will be cycling on rural roads as well as forest tracks. If you  have  bikie experience, you will love it.

Day 1: Prague

Individual arrival at the "Golden City" Prague. 

Day 2: Prague - area of Sedlcany (approx. 60 km/37 miles)

Today's stage leads you through small picturesque bohemian villages. Small houses with wooden pediment remind you of the huts within the alps. Have you ever tasted  bohemian beer? Take the chance to stop at one of the comfortable taverns. You will spend the first night of the tour in the sourroundings of Sedlcany.

Day 3: Area of Sedlcany- Pisek (approx. 75 km/47 miles)

Following the Moldau you will get to Orlik. Feel like a noblemen of the 19th century while discovering the interieur of the gothic castle Orlik. Not to forget castle Zvikov - only a few kilometers from castle Orlik, placed above the confluence of Moldau and Otava, the castle Orlik was one of the most important castles of Bohemia. Today's tour leads you further through almost virgin landscape to Pisek.

Day 4: Pisek - Budweis (approx. 70 km/43 miles)

A short trip through the woods will lead you to castle Hlubokà with its fantastic view at the Moldau. Today you will reach Budweis - a city not only famous for its fantastic beer, but also worth visiting for its huge market place with Samson fountain, as well as numerous gothic and renaissance "Laubenhäuser". You can take the train if you do not want to cycle (access to train along the route not possible)

Day 5: Budweis - Krumau (approx. 35 km/ 22 miles)

Today you will only cycle a short distance. The colourful ribbon of the river leads you to the ancient town Krumau. You will be deeply impressed by 300 ancient houses, an impressive castle, wooden balconies and colourful houses, which will remind  you of mediterranean villages. Krumau became UNESCO world cultural heritage in 1992. You can take the train if you do not want to cycle (access to train along the route not possible)

Day 6: Krumau - Aigen [Austria] (approx. 70 km/43 miles)

Today you can show your sportive talent while cycling the ascent of the bohemian forest, "the green roof of Europe". You will be highly rewarded with a splendid view. Cycling along the Moldau you will reach Lipno Dam, soon you reach the border to Austria. For the night you will stay in the romantic Mühlviertel.

Day 7: Aigen - Passau (approx. 50-75 km/ 31-47 miles)

Today you will pass varied wood areas and gently hill ranges while cycling through the Mühlviertel. The cycle path along the Danube is deeply embeddedd within the valley . By passing the famous Schlögener Schlinge "Great Loop" you come close to Passau - "the city of the three rivers". You can take the ship from Engelhartszell to Passau to shorten the tour (-25km, approx.  € 13,50/Person bike included, payable locally)

Day 8: Passau
