Istria by bike and boat
The heart of Europe - that's what the Istrians call their peninsula, inspired by its geographical form and its liveliness. This is where Central European and Mediterranean worlds meet. On this tour you will explore the most popular part of the Croatian coast. Starting in Pula, the ship will take you a bit further north every day, and our tour guides will show you the most beautiful routes of the coastal region.
Travel details
Tour profile:
gently hilly terrain, no longer uphill grades, mostly paved country roads, some traffic during the holiday season. Suitable for children from 10 years on.
Day 1: Pula - Medulin - Bay of Banjole (approx. 30km/19 miles)
Individual arrival to Pula. 11 am embarkation. Afterwards biking tour over Medulin into the bay of Banjole, the south peak of Istria.
Day 2: Vrsar - Porec (approx. 30km/19 miles)
After breakfast ship ride to Vrsar. You bike along the fijords Lim to Klostar in the back-country. Continuing to Porec, where the ship is waiting for you. In the evening, sight seeing through the charming old town of Porec. Visit the basilica Euphrasius with its wonderful mosaic ornaments.
Day 3: Porec - Groznjan - Umag (approx. 60 km/37 miles)
Today's stretch leads through romantic vineyards to Visnjan, home of the famous white Boskarin cattle. Through the backcountry to the artist village Grosnjan. The ship is waiting for you with your dinner in Umag.
Day 4: Umag - Savudrija - Umag - Novigrad (approx. 20 + 15 km/12 + 9 miles)
You will have a round trip to the peninsula of Savudrija, the most northern point in Istria. Along silent water fronts to Novigrad. There you have lots of cafés and bars, where you can enjoy the evening with a beautiful sunset.
Day 5: Novigrad - Porec - Vrsar (approx. 20 + 15 km/12 + 9 miles)
You start cycling along the coast to Porec. Have swim in the sea or stroll around the old town. Afterwards you follow the coast ahead to Vrsar. Here you can admire sculptures of the stone cutter school.
Day 6: Rovinj - Palud (approx. 20 km/12 miles)
Rovinj is called the perl of Istria. After a round trip to the nature reserve of Palud, you have enough time to discover the very nice artist town Rovinj. After dinner you will have a guided city sight seeing through the winding lanes of the town.
Day 7: Barbariga - Fazana - Brijuni - Pula (approx. 20 km/12 miles)
After a short ship ride you will cycle to Fazana. Without your bikes you will enter with a ferry to the Islands of Brijuni. There you´ll have a ride with the sight seeing train and explore the copious flora and fauna of the sub-tropical nature reserve. A Guide will show you the well preserved roman excavations. Ahead to Pula, where the ship is waiting for you.
Day 8: Pula
Disembarkation until 9 am. Individual departure.

Arrival by train:
collecting transfer from train station Rijeka to Pula and back for € 20,- p.p., payable locally, reservation necessary!
Ship TARIN:
A two-mast motor sailer with 23 m length and 6 m breath; a sun deck, a salon, the 10 cabines on deck have all private facilities, sometimes with french bed (140 cm broad); 1 cabine under deck with private facilities, 2 portholes, a desk.
