Lake Neusiedl Homebase-tour
xplore the Pannonian Lowlands around the largest steppe lake in Central Europe. The lake is located south of the “Danube Metropolis”, Vienna. This region offers the largest network of biking trails in Austria. It also houses a national park, where more than 250 different species of birds can be witnessed and observed. Enjoy the ‘Puszta-Romance’ on a holiday in a national park, which has a mild climate until late fall, well equipped bike-paths in a gorgeous picturesque landscape and incredible wildlife. Numerous bathing and leisure facilities are readily available. Lake Neusiedl is surrounded by winery villages, imposing castles and the historical Hungarian city of Sopron with its beautiful medieval city-centre.

Tour profile:
Level 1, all paths are paved or gravelled. The region is mostly flat with only a few uphill stretches on the Hungarian side. All bike routes can be custom and accordingly planned.
Day 1: Podersdorf
Individual arrival. Take a walk through the beautiful parks!
Lake Neusiedl Bike-Path (approx. 50 km/31 miles)
Start by cycling along the northern banks of the lake through picturesque villages and quaint towns until you arrive in Rust, “The Village of the Storks”. Return back to Podersdorf by ferry.
Wine and Culture-Bike-Path (approx. 43 km/27 miles)
The wines from this region are very distinct and delicious. During your ride through the extensive vineyards and rolling hills you will enjoy the wonderful view over the region and the lake. The castle of Halbturn is renowned and the most significant Baroque building in all of Burgenland.
Lacken-Bike Path (approx. 48 km/30 miles)
"Lacken" (little lakes) are defiantly worth visiting. Most of them are less than 50 cm deep and partly consist of salt water. These "Lacken" are the reason for the variety of Flora in this region. You will pass by swamps, reed-fields and vineyards, where the grapes are acclaimed worldwide for world-class wines. .
Day of rest
Take a day to relax and recuperate. Enjoy the lake and the numerous leisure facilities.
Sopron/Hungary (approx. 60 km/37 miles)
After a short ferry ride to the southern town of Mörbisch, you continue on to the Hungarian side of the lake and reach Sopron, a city that is rich of historical heritage and many sights to be seen.
Cherry-Blossom-Bike-Path (approx. 43 km/27 miles)
Start today journey by ferry to the other side of the lake. You will be guided alongside vineyards and extensive cherry orchards. Wonderful views over the Hungarian Lowlands will be a reward for you after a few short uphill stretches on today’s tour. Return by ferry back to Podersdorf.
